Visited Durango Hot Springs Resort & Spa for the first time this evening and had a great experience. I’m in town from Denver and wanted to check out a hot spring while I was here — this was a solid choice. The staff were all friendly and professional, and the bar attendant was especially welcoming. I also had a great conversation with a few locals who spoke very highly of this place, and after experiencing it myself, I can definitely see why. It was a relaxing night and I’d absolutely come back again.

Booked a time slot from 1-3 PM on a holiday weekend, and upon arrival, the parking lot was nearly full. Felt like they over sold reservations and/or walk-in for what the pools can handle. It was nearly shoulder to shoulder in all of the pools. The locker rooms were way too small for the number of people allowed in, making it overcrowded. I think they really need to install outdoor rinse showers, and the outdoor changing rooms near the cubbies are a much better option. During our visit, the restrooms in the north were closed, which was inconvenient. While I appreciated the reasonable prices for drinks, the wait was very long; there was only one employee at the window resulting in a 20-minute line. The facility was extremely busy and didn’t feel relaxing —it felt more like a water park than a spa. While I enjoyed the variety of water temperatures, the crowd made it hard to experience all of them in our two-hour window. I highly recommend figuring out the quietest days or times to make your visit worthwhile. For families, way too many kids 5 and under made it more like hotel pool activities, which was disappointing given the pricing. On a positive note, we did meet some nice people, and the water had no smell, which was a plus. The pools’ temperatures ranged from 97-109 degrees, which was nice. While I would consider going back, I would avoid holiday weekends for sure.

I’m going to be honest — I left feeling frustrated at first. My partner and I went to Durango Hot Springs Resort & Spa this evening for our anniversary, hoping for a peaceful and special night together. With the recent price changes, this already felt like a stretch for us financially. As a working-class couple, experiences like this aren’t something we can casually afford, so when we arrived and saw how crowded it was, it honestly made my heart sink. It was packed, and instead of feeling relaxed, I felt overwhelmed and uncomfortable. After paying that much, it was hard not to feel disappointed that we might not even get the quiet, intimate evening we had hoped for. I went up to the front desk feeling upset and unsure if we had made the wrong decision. But this is where the night started to turn around. The gentleman at the front desk — along with who I believe was the manager — truly listened to us. They didn’t brush us off or make us feel silly for being emotional. They acknowledged our concerns about the crowd and the cost, and they calmly explained our options. They mentioned private tubs through the spa or even moving our reservation to a less busy night (which unfortunately didn’t work for us). The manager personally walked us to show us the private tubs, and seeing how secluded, secure, and spacious they were made a big difference. Yes, it was extra money — money we hadn’t planned on spending — but we decided to go for it. And I’m so glad we did. That private space gave us exactly what we came for: time to relax, reconnect, and actually celebrate our anniversary without feeling surrounded by a crowd. It completely shifted the energy of the night. I also have to mention the bar — the piña coladas and house margaritas were amazing. The bartender was clearly working hard but stayed kind and attentive the whole time. So while the evening started with frustration and stress, it ended with gratitude. Thank you to the front desk staff and the manager for being patient, understanding, and solution-oriented. You didn’t just solve a problem — you saved our anniversary night, and that means a lot.

Durango Hot Springs offers a relaxing, well-designed setting with a great variety of soaking pools, ranging from the high 90s up to 111°F, plus two cold plunges for contrast. The layout makes it easy to move between pools and find a comfortable place to unwind. Amenities include massage services, a bar with drinks and snacks, convenient outdoor changing rooms, cozy fire pit seating areas, and what appeared to be a stage for live music. While the drinks were good, the bartender was not especially friendly. Overall, it was a fun and enjoyable experience. At $50 per adult for a session, it feels more like a special-occasion visit than an everyday outing, but the atmosphere and pool variety make it worth experiencing.
